Gamma Thohir Represents Indonesian Youth at COP 29 Azerbaijan International Discussion

The dialogue involved eight youth speakers.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BAKU -- At the United Nations Climate Change Conference COP29 Baku Azerbaijan, at the Global Renewables Hub - IRENA Pavilion, Wednesday (13/11/2024) there was a discussion on the topic Intergenerational Action for Tripling Renewable Energy by 2030.

The dialogue involved speakers consisting of eight youth from different countries as well as five senior speakers representing the United Nations, government agencies, private and non-profit organizations.

In this discussion, Gamma Thohir was present as a representative of Indonesia's young people to present thoughts and concrete steps that it has taken in order to support the achievement of renewable energy utilization in 2030.

Gamma Thohir as the founder of Village Bumi, delivered the project that has been implemented since 2015 until 2024. It started with the Microhydro Development project in the village of Cipta Geglar, the slope of Halimun mountain to provide electricity access for the indigenous people of Kasepuhan Ciptagelar until in 2024 building a solar water pump for forest farmers in Sukobuk Rejo Village, Pati, Central Java.

Gamma's presentation was appreciated by the forum, including Dr. Andrew Forrest as Executive Chairman of Fortescue.

“The results of the project are the best approach for young people to convince the public that young people are able to contribute to supporting the energy transition,” he said.
